On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vijay Diwas celebrated on 16th December, Global Counter Terrorism Council launched its ‘GCTC Bangladesh Chapter.’ The webinar started by celebrating the “Golden Jubilee Of December 16: Vijay Diwas.” Dr.Shekhar Dutt, followed by Dr.Kanwal Sibal gave their addresses and also shared their experiences of the 1971 war and future vision on India-Bangladesh relations.
The GCTC Bangladesh Chapter was then formally launched by Brig. Gen. Abu Sohel. The first session was chaired by Prabha Rao on the topic “India-Bangladesh Relations: Security and Counter-Terrorism.” Speakers such as Justice Shamsuddin Ahmed Manik, Maj. Gen. Abdur Rashid, Lt. Gen. Shokin Chauhan, Karnal Singh and Shamol Dutt. Maj.Gen. Abdur Rashid highlighted how the people of Bangladesh have stood against terrorism and insurgencies.
The second and final session was on “India-Bangladesh relations: foreign policy.” This session witnessed the presence of speakers like Prof. Abdul Mannan, Amb. Veena Sikri, Prof. Delwar Hossain, Prof. Sanjoy Hazarika, and Shamim Chaudhary. The session was chaired by Prof Chintamani Mahapatra. Ambassador Sikri praised the efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and helped
Bangladesh strengthen its relations with South Asia and globally as well. Prof. Hossain emphasised the need for India and Bangladesh to work together and focus on the Rohingyas and their repatriation. Lastly, Prof. Mannan opined that relations between India and Bangladesh can be easily smoothened out if the problem of Teesta watering sharing and border killing issue is resolved.
